Q:  How long has the firm been in operation and who are the senior CPAs?

A.  Lebson and Associates, P.A., CPAs was founded in 1982 by Roy A. Lebson, CPA. The firm's vice-president, Melanie Hurwitz, originally joined the firm in 1987.

Q:  What kinds of clients do you serve?

A:  The firm's clients include both large and small privately held businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals from all sectors of the community.  The businesses include professional practices, service organizations, retail and wholesale companies, manufacturers, consultants, and contractors.

Q:  What kinds of services do you provide?

A:  The range of services that we provide for our clients includes:  tax planning and preparation, estates and trusts, financial statement preparation, systems analysis and computer consulting, financial planning, financial forecasts and budgets, fringe benefit planning for executives and employees, management services, internal control, and cost analysis.  In addition, we have a CPA ElderCare Services program.

Q:  What geographic areas do you serve?

A:  Our clients are generally located in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.  However, we service clients throughout the entire United States, as the firm's in-house computer programs are equipped to prepare state tax returns for each state, as well as the District of Columbia.

Q:  Can you describe the firm's approach to an assignment?

A:  The entire staff strictly adheres to a thorough approach, stressing quality and accuracy.  Accordingly, we limit our practice to businesses and individuals who appreciate and desire such service.  A team concept is used in servicing business clients - two or three CPAs are assigned to each client.  By using this approach, our clients are pleased with the access to multiple individuals who are familiar with their business and financial situation.  In addition, this approach combines the experience of all the CPAs involved, in order to ensure that each client receives the finest service.

Q:  How does the staff keep up-to-date on the latest changes in both accounting and taxation?

A:  The firm is committed to the continuing professional education of its entire staff, annually exceeding the requirements of both the national and state certified public accounting societies.  The CPAs in the firm are all members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.  These memberships give the firm access to the latest information and trends in the areas of accounting and taxation.

Q:  What is the firm's source for new business?

A:  We are very proud of our firm's growth, which can be attributed primarily to client referrals.  In our opinion, this is very complimentary, since we expect our clients to judge us by the strictest of all criteria.

Q:  What do you consider your firm's greatest assets?

A:  At our present size, we are large enough to handle the various needs of most businesses, yet small enough to provide personal attention.  The combined experience of the professional staff yields large firm excellence in quality and depth, while simultaneously providing the highly desirable small firm responsiveness and concern.

Q:  Does your firm publish any literature?

A.  The firm publishes quarterly its own client newsletter, offering highlights of recent business and tax developments.  In addition, the firm publishes Financial Considerations of Starting a New Business in Maryland.  This copyrighted publication has been acknowledged in the Baltimore SUN, as well as distributed by the Baltimore City Commission for Women.  The Maryland Governor's office has recognized the publication as a valuable business resource, and its letter to that effect is included in the publication. It is updated as tax laws and regulations change, which is a frequent occurrence.

The firm subsequently composed another booklet entitled Financial Considerations of Starting A Health Care Practice in Maryland.  This publication offers insight and guidance into the unique needs of physicians, dentists, chiropractors and other health care providers.  Health care issues are also addressed in our newsletter.
